I visited this marsh that courses through a cemetery, and ended up painting plein air sketch of this scene, and then finished this larger version in my studio.

Roman Bridge, Ponte de Lima, Portugal, 30 x 40," 2010 (sold). My first visit to this bridge was in 1987 during my solo bicycle tour of Portugal. I returned in 2008 to find that the town had changed from a quiet hamlet to a prosperous tourist destination. Again, I was so taken with this scene of the bridge connecting to the Baroque church, so i pretty much rendered the scene as I saw it, but dropped the mountain top down to allow the church spire to rise above.
